Artist's Description

I am an avid beachcomber and I took this photo of tree stumps in a tidal pool on Hunting Island, a barrier island in South Carolina. As the barrier islands protect the inland, they take the brunt of tide, wind and hurricanes. They are forever changing, what used to be an estuary in the back of the island is now an ancient oyster bed in the shallows of the sea. The layers of flora and fauna fascinate me from the sand on the beach to the delicate sand dunes and reaching to the trees in the forest. This tidal pool has the remaining tree stumps from the distant past. I just noticed in this photograph the reflection of trees in this pool and I guess it is one of those moments when you aren't really seeing what you are photographing. I only digitally enhanced the color in order to bring out the image of the trees otherwise you wouldn't see them. So the cycle of life continues with today remembering yesterday.

About Pamela Iris Harden

Welcome to my gallery! I am an artist/printmaker, currently living in Whangarei, New Zealand. What I love, where I live, and especially where I have traveled inspire the art you will see here. Recent works are acrylic paintings, watercolor, mixed media, monotypes, and digital art. , I have had a keen interest in archaeology and the art of ancient civilizations for many years, especially as I studied ancient art and Pre-Columbian art history at the University of North Carolina-Asheville, where I received a BFA in 1994. With my focus in printmaking, I developed a body of work inspired by the Aztec and Mayan pyramids in Mexico. This work led to an award of a Fulbright Scholarship to Peru (1995 - 1996) to study art and printmaking, and...
