Art Prints

Welcome to my gallery!

I am an artist/printmaker, currently living in Whangarei, New Zealand. What I love, where I live, and especially where I have traveled inspire the art you will see here. Recent works are acrylic paintings, watercolor, mixed media, monotypes, and digital art.
,
I have had a keen interest in archaeology and the art of ancient civilizations for many years, especially as I studied ancient art and Pre-Columbian art history at the University of North Carolina-Asheville, where I received a BFA in 1994. With my focus in printmaking, I developed a body of work inspired by the Aztec and Mayan pyramids in Mexico. This work led to an award of a Fulbright Scholarship to Peru (1995 - 1996) to study art and printmaking, and to continue the theme of archaeology in my artwork. During my year in Peru, I visited many archaeological sites in Southern Peru and focused my work on the cultures of the Chiribaya (circa 700-1400 CE) near Ilo, and the petroglyphs of Toro Muerto from the Wari (Huari) culture (circa 450-1000 CE) located in the Arequipa region. In 1996 I was fortunate to have two exhibitions of my work at the North American-Peruvian Cultural Institute (IPNA) in Arequipa and Lima, Peru. The techniques I have used in these works are collograph, engraving, linocut, and monotype, sometimes in combination with each other or collaged with handmade paper. For more information on Toro Muerto and their ongoing projects, have a look at the new website, "Toro Muerto Archaeological Research Project" carried out by the faculty of Archaeology of the University of Warsaw. Many thanks to Janusz Woloszyn for including my artwork under Galleries/Art on their website! Go to: https://en.toromuerto.org/

So this has been my journey and I am happy to share it with you. I will continue to update as I go along and many thanks to you for having a look!
