About Pamela Iris Harden

Pamela Iris Harden
Art Prints

Welcome to my gallery!
I am an artist and printmaker, currently living in Whangarei, New Zealand. What I love, where I live, and where I have traveled inspire the art you will see here. Recent works are acrylic paintings, drawings and mixed media on small panels.

As a printmaker, I enjoy monotype, experimenting as I go with the feeling that I am drawing and painting all at the same time. For monotypes, I use a smooth plate of plastic and create an image with ink or paint. The image is printed on paper, by hand or through a press, and most always with additional printings over the first until I am satisfied that it is complete.

I have had a keen interest in archaeology and the art of ancient civilizations for many years, especially as I studied ancient art and Pre-Columbian art history at the University of North Carolina-Asheville, where I received a BFA in 1994. With my focus in printmaking, I developed a body of work inspired by the Aztec and Mayan pyramids in Mexico. I am intrigued by their physical and spiritual connections to their natural environment as it is expressed in their architectural designs and decorative facades. This work led to Peru with a Fulbright Scholarship to study art, printmaking, and archaeology. The techniques I have used are collograph, engraving, linocut and monotype, sometimes in combination with each other or collaged with handmade paper.

So this has been my journey and I am happy to share it with you. I will continue to update as I go along and many thanks to you for having a look!
